Sean Whalen (he/him/his) is a practicum counselor working toward his PsyD in counseling psychology through Alaska Pacific University. A lifelong Washingtonian, he has worked in community and school mental health systems in the Tacoma area for nearly thirty years. In addition to anxiety and depression, Sean has a special interest in learning difficulties, impulse control issues and sexual behavior problems.
Sean’s approach to therapy is to understand the client’s worldview and tailor interventions to best suit the client’s way of thinking and feeling. He believes that human beings, like all living things, grow and heal when they find balance with their world. We might use cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, or interpersonal strategies along the way.
When not at CHWS you might find him in his office downtown, on a walk with his dog (Koda), or enjoying the beauty of the area with his wife and two children. There are also two cats that let us share their house most of the time.
