Jeff Okey is a licensed psychologist who joined the CHWS staff in Fall 2016, and prior to that had been in private practice in Tacoma for the past 24 years. He earned his Ph.D. from Arizona State University in 1992, and completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Seattle Veterans Administration Hospital. While his practice has been quite diverse and general in terms of clients and problems, he has developed particular experience and expertise in treating a wide range of mood disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders, and emotional, adjustment and pain coping difficulties associated with or secondary to medical problems. In addition to his individual treatment role over these years, he also served as Clinical Director of Northwest Center for Integrative Medicine, a multidisciplinary, outpatient medical rehabilitation practice with a CARF-accredited program in chronic pain management.
Jeff is particularly enthused about the opportunity to work with students at this critical juncture in their growth and development. His approach is eclectic and integrative, informed by underlying existential and psychodynamic thought, but manifest with whatever the ideal combination of cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and insight-oriented techniques seems to fit the individual student, problem and timeframe. His overriding belief is that current difficulties are simply opportunities for further growth, development, and depth of understanding, and that it is always a privilege to serve as guide and mentor for another on this journey.
Outside of work, Jeff enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, golfing, reading, writing, and following Gonzaga University Bulldog Basketball.
