Regular attendance is an essential part of learning at Puget Sound. If a student has a disability that may involve absences, the student should request an accommodation of flexibility in attendance at the beginning of each semester through Student Accessibility and Accommodation. The extent of flexibility is determined by the professor based on the nature of the course and the academic standards of the course. If a student is absent frequently or for an extended period of time due to illness or injury, he or she should notify the instructor and discuss whether or not continuation in the class is feasible.
Students are never required to disclose the nature of their disability to a professor.
The university attendance policy is stated in The Logger under the "Registration" section:
"Regular class attendance is expected of all students. Absence from class for any reason does not excuse the student from completing all course assignments. When non-attendance is in the instructor's judgement excessive, the instructor may levy a grade penalty or may direct the registrar to drop the student from the course.
