Since its outbreak in early 2020, COVID-19 has not only brought forth a global public health crisis, but also triggered xenophobic and discriminatory reactions based on racialized perceptions of the virus. This talk explains the origin and spread of the virus by carefully scrutinizing the politics and social dynamics in China and unpacking the racism surrounding it.
