Tacoma Refugee Choir: "Your Voice Matters"

Join us for this free community event featuring the Tacoma Refugee Choir as they share songs and stories of refugees who live in our local community.

The mission of the Tacoma Refugee Choir, founded and directed by Erin Guinup '96, is to create a more welcoming community through the power of music. The choir is a diverse, non-auditioned choral ensemble. The name for the choir originated from a desire to stand with political refugees specifically, but the choir embraces all community members and especially welcomes anyone who has been estranged, persecuted, or harmed by any form of injustice, as well as those wishing to offer solidarity and support. Now just within its first two years, the ensemble has included more than 200 singers from 31 countries. The group performs songs from the pop music cannon, considered to be a widely familiar musical language in America. Audience members will be invited to use their own voices to participate in this community singalong.

The event is hosted by the university's Community Music Department and is also sponsored by the City of Tacoma. Admission is free. No tickets are required.
