"Delicious Strangeness: A Magic Realistic Workshop with Stephanie Barbe Hammer"

Writer and award-winning educator Stephanie Barbé Hammer will lead a workshop featuring writing prompts inspired by Gabriel García Marquez, Franz Kafka and Aimee Bender. Bring writing tools and your fabulous mind! Refreshments will be served.

Hammer is a five-time nominee for the Pushcart Prize in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Her work has appeared in Hayden’s Ferry Review, Pearl, and the Bellevue Literary Review, among other places. She is the author of The Puppet Turners of Narrow Interior, How Formal?, Sex with Buildings, and a writing handbook, Delicious Strangeness: A Pocket Guide to Magic Realism. A former scholar of comparative literature at UC Riverside, Hammer’s scholarly publications include Schiller's Wound: The Theater of Trauma from Crisis to Commodity (Wayne State UP, 2001). Born in New York City, Hammer now lives on Whidbey Island, where she writes and teaches creative writing at community colleges and nonprofits.
