Adelphian Concert Choir Tours Washington State

College choir will give free concerts March 16–28:
Wenatchee, Spokane, Walla Walla, Bellevue, Tacoma

TACOMA, Wash. – University of Puget Sound’s celebrated student vocal group, the Adelphian Concert Choir, is heading across its home state of Washington for its annual Spring Tour. The 47-voice ensemble will be giving free public concerts at schools and churches from Sunday, March 16, to Friday, March 28, at the locations below.

Everyone is welcome to attend the events and no tickets are required. At some concerts the Adelphians will be joined by local high school and college choirs as special guests. The Adelphian Concert Choir, led by conductor Steven Zopfi, is composed of vocally talented Puget Sound students, many of whom anticipate careers in music.

The tour program will include selections from a diverse range of music including sacred songs, old-time favorites, choruses from Buddhist, European, and South African traditions, and modern innovations in music. Some of works to be performed are Ola Gjeilo’s Serenity, Ned Rorem’s In Time of Pestilence, Brian Tate’s Gate, Gate, Guido López Gavilán’s Pa Kin Kin, and the traditional songs Hard Times Come Again No More and Danny Boy.

Founded in 1932 the Adelphian Concert Choir has attracted accolades from audiences in Canada, Europe, and on the West Coast. Steven Zopfi, one of the leading young conductors in the Pacific Northwest, joined University of Puget Sound in 2008 as director of choral activities and conductor of the Adelphians. This followed a career that included singing with the Prague Philharmonic and New Jersey Symphony, conducting world premieres of new music, and serving with professional music associations. He also currently serves as the artistic director and conductor of the Portland Symphonic Choir in Oregon.

University of Puget Sound School of Music is the only national liberal arts college in the Northwest to be accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and to offer a full symphony orchestra, concert band, jazz band, and comprehensive choral program. The school offers three professional degrees for undergraduates.
