Adelphian Concert Choir Heads to Colorado

Choir to give free concerts March 16–20, in Idaho, Colorado, Utah

TACOMA, Wash. – University of Puget Sound’s celebrated student vocal group, the Adelphian Concert Choir, is heading to Idaho, Colorado, and Utah to perform a series of free public concerts from Saturday, March 16, to Wednesday, March 20.

The performances in Twin Falls, Idaho; Grand Junction, Colo.; Boulder, Colo.; Vernal, Utah; and Boise, Idaho, will present a lively selection of music ranging from contemporary composer Eric Whitacre’s Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine to Charles Theodore Pachelbel’s early 18th century Magnificat.

The 47-voice ensemble will be performing at churches and high schools, and in some cases will give joint concerts with local high school choirs. Everyone is welcome to attend the events and no tickets are required. The Adelphian Concert Choir, led by conductor Steven Zopfi, is composed of vocally talented Puget Sound students, many of whom anticipate careers in music.

Founded in 1932 the Adelphian Concert Choir has attracted accolades from audiences in Canada, Europe, and on the West Coast. Steven Zopfi, one of the leading young conductors in the Pacific Northwest, joined University of Puget Sound in 2008 as director of choral activities and conductor of the Adelphians. This followed a career that included singing with the Prague Philharmonic and New Jersey Symphony, conducting world premieres of new music, and serving with professional music associations. He also currently serves as the artistic director and conductor of the Portland Symphonic Choir in Oregon.

University of Puget Sound School of Music is the only national liberal arts college in the Northwest to be accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and to offer a full symphony orchestra, concert band, jazz band, and comprehensive choral program. The school offers three professional degrees for undergraduates.
