Volleyball Team Serves Up 10 Aces In Sweep Of Pacific

TACOMA, Wash. – Jackie Harvey had 14 kills and the Loggers combined for 10 service aces as the Puget Sound volleyball team swept Pacific 25-18, 25-18, 25-16 on Saturday. Five different Loggers had two aces in the win.

Harvey was one of the five to record two aces to go along with her match-high 14 kills and .303 hitting percentage. Marissa Florant, Jenni Brehove, Christina Chun and Andie Keneally also joined the service aces spree.

Brehove served the first seven points of the match as the Loggers (15-5, 9-3 NWC) sprinted out to a 7-0 lead before the Boxers (9-11, 8-4 NWC) were able to get on the board.

The Boxers started faster in the second set but a late run from the Loggers gave them a comfortable lead and eventually a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, the Loggers hitting cooled off a bit but they tallied three team blocks led by Kristin Best and Danielle Westermann. Westermann also had nine kills in the match while hitting .389.

The Loggers hit .231 as a team in the match and Brehove dished out 32 assists.

Alexa Block had 10 kills to lead the Boxers and Mariah McHolland was in on all six Boxer blocks in the match.

The Loggers remain at home next week to host to host Willamette on Friday at 7 p.m.

Head Coach Mark Massey Notches Win No. 300

TACOMA, Wash. – Puget Sound volleyball head coach Mark Massey notched his 300th career victory at Puget Sound as the 15th-ranked Puget Sound volleyball team defeated visiting George Fox in four sets on Friday. Marissa Florant’s 18 kills led the Loggers (14-5, 8-3 NWC) to the victory.
“It really just means I’ve been around a long time and had some really good player on my side of the net,” Massey said about his 300th win. “It says a lot about the caliber of student-athlete we get at Puget Sound, being able to win 300 matches here and establish ourselves as one of the top programs in Division III.”
Florant tallied 11 of her team-high 18 kills in the final two sets with five coming in the final set of the win. She hit .320 on the day and also tallied a team-high 18 digs. Jackie Harvey added 15 kills and 17 digs to the effort.
The Loggers started off on a roll, hitting .321 through the first two sets to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. However, George Fox (8-10, 6-5 NWC) reversed the tables in the third set, led by seven kills from Erin Campbell. Campbell finished the match with a match-high 19 kills and 19 digs. Lucy Capron had 13 kills for the Bruins.
The fourth set stayed close through the first two dozen points as the Loggers led 13-11. After the Loggers took over the serve with a 16-13 lead, Karly Edwards served up the final 10 points. Florant pounded down her final three kills during the run, including the final point of the match.
