Session Title: Bridging the Americas: Researching and Writing Transnational Black Fiction
Session Description: In Bridging the Americas: The Literature of Paule Marshall, Toni Morrison, and Gayl Jones (Temple University Press: 1994), Stelamaris Coser explains how the novels of three black women writers in the U.S. re-imagine national boundaries and shared culture within our hemisphere. In this presentation Professor Simms will share her research for a novel and the many connections she made between Detroit and Mexico City. The presentation will include a creative writing prompt and sharing.
