Kurt Walls joined Puget Sound faculty in 1999 as the Director of Theatre Production. In addition to designing our faculty-directed plays, he teaches classes in technical theatre and scene design and mentors the Senior Theatre Festival. He has designed over twenty-five productions in the Norton Clapp Theatre. Some of his favorite designs include Into the Woods, Wilder One Acts, Tartuffe, Angels in America (Part 1), A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Cripple of Inishmann, The Skin of Our Teeth, The Cradle Will Rock, The Trip to Bountiful, As You Like It, Spring Awakening, and In the Next Room. He has designed scenery for over forty productions for Flying House Productions, the producing organization behind the Seattle Men’s Chorus and the Seattle Women’s Chorus. They perform regularly at McCaw Hall and Benaroya Hall as well as The 5th Avenue Theatre, The Paramount Theatre, Meany Hall, St. Mark’s Cathedral and the Cornish Playhouse. Kurt has also designed scenery for the Seattle Repertory Theatre, Intiman Theatre, Book-It Repertory Theatre, Seattle Shakespeare Company, The Moore Theatre, Tacoma Little Theatre, and Tacoma’s Theatre on the Square. Prior to his position at Puget Sound, Kurt was the General Manager of Pacific Studio, a design and fabrication firm that specializes in the entertainment and museum industries. After receiving his MFA in Scene Design and Stage Technology from the University of Washington, Kurt was the Assistant Technical Director at the Seattle Repertory Theatre.
