Statement Regarding Temporary Restrictions on International and Domestic Travel

The health and safety of members of the university community is always Puget Sound’s top priority.  In light of ongoing advisories and warnings being issued about international travel, and the increased presence of the coronavirus locally, regionally, and nationally, the University of Puget Sound is issuing the following update related to international and domestic travel:  

International Travel

  • All international travel on behalf of the University of Puget Sound is prohibited until further notice.
  • All personal international travel is strongly discouraged.
  • Any traveler coming to the University of Puget Sound from areas designated as a Warning Level 3 Travel Health Notice by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) must self-quarantine for 14 days, monitor their health, and practice social distancing before entering the Puget Sound campus.
  • Members of the university community who are planning personal international travel by common carrier are required to notify the university by sharing their travel plans.

Domestic Travel 

  • All domestic non-essential travel* by common carrier on behalf of the University of Puget Sound is prohibited until further notice.
  • All personal domestic non-essential travel* by common carrier is strongly discouraged.
    Note:  Travel on behalf of the university by personal vehicle is permitted in appropriate circumstances.  University faculty and staff will consult with their supervisor to determine the appropriateness of travel by personal vehicle.
    * Essential travel, in this context, is defined as travel related to the health, safety, and wellbeing of family members and members of the Puget Sound community.  Non-essential travel is defined as travel related to routine university business including, but not limited to, attendance at professional conferences, student recruitment, fundraising, and event execution.  Exceptions may be considered and granted by the president, provost, or appropriate division vice president.
  • Domestic travelers coming to the University of Puget Sound may be required to self-quarantine for 14 days, monitor their health, and practice social distancing before entering the Puget Sound campus.
  • Members of the university community who are planning personal domestic travel by common carrier are required to notify the university by sharing their travel plans.
