May 4, 2022 Update

The Dining Dollars Bank allows you to support your fellow students who are in need. If you have leftover Dining Dollars as the semester comes to a close, please consider donating using this form. If you or someone you know does not have the resources to replenish your Dining Dollars or purchase groceries, you can request funds from the bank at this link.
TODAY at 4pm – Pops on the Lawn! Enjoy the Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble with student conductors. Event will be held on Karlen Quad (east side of School of Music building).
Operation Save returns this year: From Sunday May 8 through Wednesday May 11 we will be collecting clean clothes and shoes. Please tie the shoes together, if possible. There will be multiple drop-off locations, including in the North Quad, South Quad, and Union Avenue. Keep an eye out for the donation points and bring your clothes by between 9am and 5pm. Your donations will be collected by a Ukrainian church in Tacoma and will be shipped to refugees in Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. Volunteers to collect and sort donated items area appreciated. Stay connected over the summer! We have several job positions that will have open forums for students to be involved in the hiring process. We’ll utilize this list of student leaders to alert you to the days and time of those hybrid interviews, so don’t forget to check your UPS email!

The Enrollment Marketing Division is working with an outside partner to conduct initial discovery sessions, develop messaging platforms for our prospective students, and create an enrollment campaign to increase awareness of University of Puget Sound. They want to hear from you about your experience at Puget Sound, including your college search and application process. The interview session is a group session with 10-15 students. You don’t need to prepare. They want your honest, candid feedback and opinions. Plus they are raffling four $50 Amazon gift cards amongst the participating students. Sign up here!
Puget Sound’s Hawaii Club will be hosting its annual lu'au on Saturday, April 9! The event is titled "Ua Mau Ke Ea o Ka ‘Āina i Ka Pono" (translation: the life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness.) This year's program also features a Tahitian dance group, Ke Like A'e O Lei Lehua E Kapuaokalani. It begins Saturday, April 9 at 7:30pm at the UPS Fieldhouse, and UPS tickets are only $5 and available at the Info Center or online at tickets.pugetsound.edu.
The Office of the Chaplaincy is hosting an additional weekly meeting of Grief Group. The group already meets on Tuesday from 5:00-6:00pm in WSC 106/108. The new time is Fridays from 10:30-11:30am in Thomas 380.
CHWS is hosting workshops on “To mask or not to mask? And other COVID-19 Conundrums: Balancing Individual Choices and Community Care”, that can be presented to student organizations on request. If members of your organization are struggling with pandemic anxiety, fatigue, or indecision, consider scheduling a time for your group to complete the workshop (either in person or online). Sexual assault survivor advocacy is now available to Puget Sound students through two professional advocates. Please spread the word to your friends and organizations. You can learn more about the advocates and schedule a virtual meeting with one of them by completing this form on our website.

After 38 years as a professional staff member Todd Badham, Director of Security Services, has decided to retire. Todd’s retirement date is August 1, 2022. The university will be partnering with a search firm to find the best candidate to fill this important role.
ASUPS Campus Films will be presenting Last Night in Soho at Rausch Auditorium this weekend (Fri March 25 and Sat March 26). Bring your friends for a movie night!

This week’s Random Act of Fun is a putting competition today (March 1) in Wheelock Piano Lounge from 11am – 1pm. Show off your golf skills to win prizes.

This weekend (March 4 and 5) the Student Affairs division is sponsoring a movie in Rausch Auditorium – bring your friends and see The French Dispatch with Bill Murray, Timothée Chalamet, and Tilda Swinton. Tickets are free!
Today (March 1) is the deadline to nominate your fellow students for the Puget Sound Leadership Awards. These awards recognize students who have demonstrated exemplary leadership and commitment to our community, and some awards even include financial support. You can find more information about each award as well as the nomination form online.
Sexual assault survivor advocacy will be available to Puget Sound students within the next two weeks. Student Affairs is partnering with advocates from King and Pierce Counties to offer virtual services. More information will be sent out soon on how to access services.

Residence Life and Technology Services are aware of the wifi issues in a couple of the residence halls. TS has tracked down the issue, and are working quickly to fix it.
SI&P, the Office of the Chaplaincy, and other Student Affairs departments sponsored two DSA pop-up events over the last week. Hopefully you were able to join hallway bowling or participate in The Great Duck Hunt. Check out the Insta handle @sipofpugetsound for more information on the next pop-up.
Security Services is beginning the process to fill its vacant Assistant Director position. Before the process starts, the entire committee, which includes ASUPS Vice President Grant Konkel, will participate in a training about mitigating bias in a hiring process. Before the start of the fall semester, anyone within Student Affairs that participates in a hiring process will be required to go through this training.
In response to some specific feedback from the Student Support Survey that was administered in the fall, Student Affairs will be staffing the Dean of Students Office from 5pm until 7pm on Monday nights. If you have questions on services, need to make an appointment, or just want to chat with someone in the know, drop by WSC 208.

Shirreka Mackay joined the CHWS team in the fall to lend additional support to the counseling team as they work to address the challenges students are facing. We are excited to announce that Shirreka will be working with us for the entirety of the spring semester. She is working out of WSC 208 if you want to come say hi.
Based on a conversation with the Dean of Students Council, I’m working with Facilities Services to do some updating (this is not a renovation) on the main floor of the Wheelock Student Center. The goal is to provide a more friendly environment with more study space opportunity.
Marta Cady, Associate Dean of Students, announced her retirement last week. Her last day on campus was today Friday, January 21. I’ll be announcing how we will cover her position within the next couple of weeks.
Spread the word about the Religious Accommodations Policy. The deadline for asking your faculty member for an accommodation is 5pm on Tuesday, February 1.
