FEPPS provides a rigorous college program for incarcerated women, trans-identified and gender nonconforming people in Washington and creates pathways to higher education after students are released from prison. FEPPS's goals are to increase FEPPS students’ economic and personal empowerment, contribute to family stability and reduce recidivism through college education.
FEPPS is now an Academic Program of the University and the UPS will start a BA program for the women in the prison in Fall 2020. Right now, 100 women in the prison are part of the FEPPS college program and work toward an AA degree.
UPS students already support the program as co-learners and research partners through a class called Prisons, Gender and Education.
