Name: Gavin Tranter '16
Majors: Double major in Trumpet Performance and Mathematics
Musical Involvements: Wind Ensemble (Principal), Symphony Orchestra (Principal)
Why I chose Puget Sound: I found myself drawn not only to the scenery on and around campus, but the encouraging atmosphere created by the community, faculty and students alike-- I really felt like I could pursue anything here.
Favorite thing about Puget Sound and the School of Music: For me, the faculty really makes the Puget Sound School of Music what it is. The professors here are all very supportive and highly respected in their fields, and my trumpet instructor Judson Scott as well has truly shown me my potential as a musician.
Favorite musical memory at Puget Sound: The Wind Ensemble's performance of Maslanka's Symphony No. 4 was unforgettable: I've never felt so physically involved in a piece of music, and the Symphony strengthened our bond as an ensemble--or "organism," you could say.
Favorite place on campus: My favorite place on campus is definitely Oppenheimer Café; it's only a five minute walk from the practice rooms, so it's perfect for coffee breaks during long practice sessions.
What I'm looking forward to: Now that I have technique I didn't have before college, I look forward to attacking new and more difficult repertoire to challenge myself as an artist.
