What is Tipasa?

Tipasa is a web based system that allows you to check the status of your requests, allows you to access articles over the web, and to make ILL requests directly from many of our databases. To create your Tipasa account, go to the Tipasa logon page and login with your Puget Sound login information.

What can you do in your ILL account online?

  • Create your login and never have to type in name, address, etc. on another ILL request form.
  • Track the current status of all your ILL requests online 24 hours a day.
  • Pickup your articles over the web or have them ready for pick-up at the Circulation Desk in the library -- which ever you prefer.
  • View checked out items and renew online.
  • Send, edit or cancel your ILL requests online.

The online form offers these benefits!

  • Forwards Primo, FirstSearch, Proquest, Ebsco, and other database requests into Tipasa automatically.
  • Forwards blank form requests for book loans and photocopies into Tipasa automatically.
  • Automates messages with specific request details - you will know which book or article arrived.
  • Reduces the turn-around time to get your ILL requests filled. Reduces the amount of paper used in Interlibrary Loan.
  • Reduces the number of errors that happen often with paper requests systems.

How long does it take to get ILL items?

On average it takes 6-10 working days. Many arrive sooner. However, other items may take several weeks to obtain or they simply may not be available at all.

How much does it cost?

The library pays up to $12.00 per request. Any charges above $12.00 are deferred to the patron to be paid upon pick-up at the Circulation Desk. Fortunately, we are able to obtain most items free of charge. However, you are responsible for paying any overdue or replacement fees associated with the loan.

What if I need something fast?

If an article is needed quickly, a rush request can be submitted by current students, faculty, and staff. Books cannot be rushed. A rush request form must be filled out and turned in at the circulation desk along with a $2.00 rush fee. This is a non-refundable processing fee and does not guarantee that the item will arrive by a certain date. Every effort will be made to assure fast service, however, availability and date of material do affect delivery time. The average length of time for a Document Delivery article to arrive is 2-5 working days.

How will I know when my requests arrive?

  • If you have not picked up books by their due date, we will return them to the lending library.

How long can I keep my Interlibrary Loans?

  • Photocopies are yours to keep.
  • For returnables, the lending library determines the length of time an item is on loan and any other special lending conditions, such as library use only.
  • For renewals, If you need to renew an item, you can renew items from your Interlibrary Loan account. You can renew between seven days of the due date and 3 days past the due date. Logon to Interlibrary Loan and click on View/Renew Checked Out Items. If you are having trouble renewing an item, please contact the ILL staff. You are expected to return all items on time and bear in mind that all interlibrary loans are subject to recall by the lending library.
