Rankings & Recognition

Rankings and recognitions don't tell the full Puget Sound story, but we are certainly excited when other organizations highlight some of the amazing things that happen on our campus. Of course, the best way to find out if Puget Sound is the right place for you is to visit campus and talk with our students and faculty.

Colleges That Change Lives logoColleges That Change Lives is a highly-regarded college guide that focuses on liberal arts institutions where professors are passionate about their teaching and mentoring, and where students can meet and exceed their own expectations for personal and intellectual growth. The book describes Puget Sound as having a “smart, fascinating curriculum” and thoughtful professors who “earn shining endorsements” from their students.

Carnegie Foundation Professor of the YearSeven Puget Sound faculty members have received Carnegie Foundation Washington State Professor of the Year awards, more than any other institution.

The Princeton Review logo Puget Sound made The Princeton Review’s Best Colleges “honor roll” for academically outstanding Best Western Colleges again in 2020. The college was also named among the top 20 most beautiful campuses in the country and recognized again for having one of the best college radio stations.

Peace Corps logoUniversity of Puget Sound has consistently been named a top producer of Peace Corps volunteers among small schools. It tied for the No. 2 spot in 2017 and for the No. 1 spot in 2016.


Wall Street Journal Top 100 logoA new Wall Street Journal and Times Higher Education ranking system named Puget Sound among the Top 100 liberal arts colleges in the United States. The performance indicators focused on education quality and student outcomes.



Kiplinger logoPuget Sound was named a 2019 Best Value College by Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine and included among the Top 100 best-value private liberal arts colleges. The list recognizes schools that combine outstanding academics with affordable cost. 


Forbes logoPuget Sound was included in Forbes' 2017 list of the 300 Best Value Colleges. The guide seeks to name institutions with the most meaningful return on investment, based on tuition costs, school quality, post-grad earnings, student debt, and graduation success.



Priinceton Review logoPuget Sound was included in Princeton Review's Guide to Green Colleges in 2016. The guide highlights colleges with "the most exceptional commitments to sustainability based on their academic offerings and career preparation for students, campus policies, initiatives, and activities."


Fiske Guide 2017 logoPuget Sound is included in the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2017, a selective list of the "best and most interesting" colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada, and U.K., based on academics, campus setting, student life, financial aid, housing, and more.



Forbes logoForbes magazine put Puget Sound in the Top 20 in a listing of the country's Most Entrepreneurial Colleges in 2015. The list recognized schools with the largest percentage of graduates who become company founders or entrepreneurs.



Fulbright logoPuget Sound students have earned more than 200 national scholarships since 2001, including Fulbright, Rhodes, Goldwater, Watson, National Science Foundation, Critical Language, Boren, Princeton in Asia, and Luce in Asia Scholarships.


National Science Foundation logoPuget Sound is in the top 7 percent of baccalaureate-granting institutions nationwide whose graduates go on to earn doctorates, according to 2016 data from the National Science Foundation Survey of Earned Doctorates.



Puget Sound Business Journal logoPuget Sound was named by Puget Sound Business Journal as a Washington state college with the Highest Paid Alums. Using data from the federal College Scorecard, Puget Sound was placed second among eight Washington schools.


Teach For America logoPuget Sound is a top producer of graduates who enter Teach for America. In 2016 Puget Sound was in it's small schools Top 20 list.


Colleges of Distinction logoPuget Sound is in the annual guide Colleges of Distinction which seeks to recognize colleges with engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community, and successful outcomes.



Business Insider logoBusiness Insider's 2015 assessment of The 610 Smartest Colleges in America, based on average standardized test scores, included Puget Sound at No. 186 in the list.


MSN logoPuget Sound was selected as one of the Top 20 Best Colleges for Getting a Job in Tech in MSN's IT Insider section. Using federal data, the analysis assessed academic excellence, computer science major grad's salaries, National Science Foundation funding, and more.

NASPA Voter-Friendly logoIn 2017 Puget Sound was selected by NASPA as a Voter-Friendly Campus, indicating the campus engages students and promotes voter registration and voting. NASPA is the national body for student affairs administrators.


Forbes logoForbes included Puget Sound in its 2016 Grateful Grads Index, which ranked 200 private not-for-profit colleges on the basis of private donations per student and the percentage of alumni who give back.
