Gerard Morris serves as director of bands, department chair for winds and percussion, and conductor of the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and opera and musical theatre orchestras at Puget Sound. To share his passion for new music, he has commissioned wind compositions and led the Wind Ensemble in performances of world premieres. Morris is resident conductor of the Heartland Marimba Festival, and has conducted groups including Boulder Brass, Illinois Brass Band, Chicago's Sonic Inertia Performance Group, and ensembles at Northwestern University, University of Colorado, Xavier University, Cal Poly Pomona, and Iowa State University. During his years of professional experience as principal euphonium with the Boulder Brass and the United States Marine Corps Band in Hawaii, he toured the United States, Australia, and Costa Rica, performing both as an ensemble member and soloist. Morris is dedicated to public school music education and has taught at junior and senior high schools in Michigan and Colorado. He has appeared as a guest conductor and clinician for public schools, honor ensembles, and festivals throughout the country, and in British Columbia and Alberta. He also serves as conductor of the Puget Sound Youth Wind Ensemble, and provides workshops in conducting technique and teaching pedagogy for public school teachers.
