Alyce DeMarais is a developmental biologist who applies molecular biological techniques to the investigation of cellular interactions during egg development. She has received several grants for research as principal investigator and has published in her field. Her current work focuses on genetics and the development of vertebrate eggs using zebrafish and live-bearing fish as vertebrate model systems. Her work addresses questions about how ovarian cells maintain communication with an egg and how these cells “let go” of the egg at ovulation. In addition DeMarais’ research addresses the role of environmental factors on egg development. DeMarais teaches in fields including genetics and developmental biology.
