University of Puget Sound Retirement Savings Plan

This is a summary of the annual report for the UNIVERSITY OF PUGET SOUND RETIREMENT SAVINGS PLAN, (Employer Identification No. 91-0564961, Plan No. 001) for the period July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017.  The annual report has been filed with the Employee Benefits Security Administration, as required under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).

BASIC FINANCIAL STATEMENT

Benefits under the plan are provided by a trust (benefits are provided in whole from trust funds).  Plan expenses were $16,070,775.  These expenses included $63,056 in administrative expenses and $16,007,719 in benefits paid to participants and beneficiaries.  A total of 2,436 persons were participants in or beneficiaries of the plan at the end of the plan year, although not all of these persons had yet earned the right to receive benefits.

The value of plan assets, after subtracting liabilities of the plan, was $266,422,832 as of June 30, 2017 compared to $245,193,992 as of July 1, 2016.  During the plan year the plan experienced an increase in its net assets of $21,228,840.  This increase includes unrealized appreciation or depreciation in the value of plan assets; that is, the difference between the value of the plan's assets at the end of the year and the value of the assets at the beginning of the year, or the cost of assets acquired during the year.  The plan had total income of $37,299,615, including employer contributions of $5,194,838, employee contributions of $2,462,276, others contributions of $687,909 and earnings from investments of $28,954,592.

The plan has a contract with TIAA-CREF which allocates funds toward individual policies.

University of Puget Sound Flexible Benefit Plan

This is a summary of the annual report of the University of Puget Sound Flexible Benefit Plan, EIN 91-0564961, Plan No. 507, for period January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016. The annual report has been filed with the Employee Benefits Security Administration, U.S. Department of Labor, as required under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).

The University of Puget Sound has committed itself to pay medical, dental and vision claims incurred under the terms of the plan.

Insurance Information

The plan has contracts with Premera Blue Cross and Unum Life Insurance Company of America to pay life, medical and dental claims incurred under the terms of the plan. The total premiums paid for the plan year ending December 31, 2016 were $7,811,814.

This is a summary of the annual report of the Total Disability Insurance Plan, EIN 91-0564961, Plan No. 504, for period January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016. The annual report has been filed with the Employee Benefits Security Administration, U.S. Department of Labor, as required under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).

Insurance Information

The plan has a contract with Unum Life Insurance Company of America to pay temporary disability, long-term disability and employee assistance claims incurred under the terms of the plan. The total premiums paid for the plan year ending December 31, 2016 were $195,325.
