3D Printing

We offer 3D Printing through our Makerbot Replicator 5th Gen. We print using biodegradable PLA plastic, available in a wide variety of colors.

Save your file for printing as an .STL and send it to us, then choose from a few basic options. We will give you a timeline and price. Prints may take anywhere from a couple of hours to several days to print, depending on size, density, and complexity.

Once your print is completed, you may need to finish your item by sanding, priming, or painting. Print & Copy Services does not offer finishing services.

Stuck for ideas?

There are many 3D Print designs available on the web to download. Thingiverse.com has a large collection of downloadable files.

Some of these prints can be customized...

...Or you can design your own from scratch. Tinkercad is a simple, easy to use, web-based design site. Sculptris, Sketchup, and Blender are all free 3D modeling software packages. There is 3D modeling software available on the Tech and Art Lab computers.

Important thoughts for designing 3D prints:

Free floating sections
You can’t build (print) in mid-air. Everything must have support from the ground up. Consider creating some supporting legs, which can be snapped off after the print is completed.

Is the object top-heavy? Does it lack a flat bottom?
Either of these may cause your print to tip over mid-way through the print. Consider rotating your object to print upside down or sideways.

Is there too much detail?
Simple, clean designs will be more effective, and print more neatly.
