Ben Smith

Mr. Smith was a Suzuki piano student of Jacqueline Block at the University of Puget Sound Community Music Department for nine years.  For the past fourteen years, also at Community Music, Mr. Smith took Suzuki Piano Teacher Training workshops and apprenticeships.  He continued his teacher training through specific workshops in St. Petersburg, Florida; in Matsumoto, Japan; and at the Suzuki Institute in Oregon.

Mr. Smith was Director of the Tacoma Urban Orchestra for which he arranged and composed. For five years, Ben was Orchestra Manager with Grace Church in Seattle.  As keyboardist with this orchestra, he performed at Benaroya Hall the world premier performance of "Oratorio of Prayers."

For the past eight years, Ben has taught Suzuki piano through his private studio, through the University Place Presbyterian Church, and here with the Community Music Department.  He creates a nurturing environment of creativity, exploration and development.
