Political Commentator David Brooks to Deliver Susan Resneck Pierce Lecture

Tacoma, Wash. – Political analyst and public affairs commentator David Brooks is coming to University of Puget Sound’s Schneebeck Concert Hall to deliver the lecture, “How Does Being American Shape Us?” The talk is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 10. Tickets are required for the event, which is open to the public.

n a variety of prestigious media outlets. He is a biweekly op-ed columnist for The New York Times and regular analyst on Meet The Press, NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, and NPR’s All Things Considered.
Brooks has worked at The Weekly Standard, joining the magazine at its inception and serving as senior editor. He has been a contributing editor at Newsweek and The Atlantic Monthly. He worked at The Wall Street Journal for nine years in a range of positions, including op-ed editor. He has written for The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Forbes, The Washington Post, and many other periodicals. He is the author of two books: Bobos in Paradise and On Paradise Drive, tomes he describes as “comic sociology.”
The Susan Resneck Pierce Lecture Series in Public Affairs and the Arts is named for the president emerita of University of Puget Sound. The series brings intellectuals, writers, and artists to the university to talk about interesting and challenging ideas that will stimulate further exploration and discussion on campus. Past Pierce lecturers include Poet Laureate of the United States Robert Pinsky, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, playwright/actress Anna Deavere Smith, race and religion scholar Cornel West, and journalist/historian David Halberstam.
