Accelerated Reading (LC100)Course Description The class format for Accelerated Reading LC100 consists of four lectures (three consecutive weekly lectures at the beginning of the semester, one lecture later as announced), ten sessions of computer-based reading lab (one lab per week is required, scheduled at the student's convenience), two assignments, and a reading journal. Lecture topics include the reading process, reading efficiency, hand-pacing methods, textbook marking and annotating, and a discussion of reading and learning strategies. The computer-based reading program, Ultimate Speed Reader, is designed to enhance eye movement and peripheral vision, and forces a faster reading rate and improved comprehension through paced readings. Although there is no guarantee, most students double their reading rate, with no loss of comprehension, by the end of the course. |
