Mental Health Resources
As a university-based office, Counseling, Health & Wellness Services is not designed to manage serious illness in this academic setting. Since university clinics, like ours, are not considered appropriate for intensive treatment, long-term therapy or highly specialized assessment, it's common practice to refer students to community providers when their healthcare calls for something different from what university counseling centers typically provide.
We hope to orient you to the options in our neighboring communities, and are happy to consult by phone at 253.879.1555 for help with this process. Feel free to call if you'd like help understanding the differences between the various mental health professions represented here. Of note, for example, is that the psychiatrists, nurse practitioners and family practice doctors listed here all prescribe medication, whereas the psychologists, social workers and counselors provide psychotherapy.
