Emily Sharp
Practicum Counselor
Emily has joined CHWS as a practicum counselor in September 2012 for the 2012-2013 academic year. She is entering her third year of the Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology program at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria, CA. Emily completed her BA in Psychology in 2001 and her Master of Social Work in 2003, both at the University of Southern California. Since completing her MSW, Emily worked with a variety of clients in a variety of clinical settings ranging from community-based programs to medical clinics.
Emily’s area of clinical interest includes working with people on identity development and phase of life transitions. Emily’s style as a therapist is based on an integrative or eclectic approach as she believes in working from the perspective that is most illuminating and helpful for each unique individual client. Her theoretical foundation is composed of interpersonal/relational, insight-oriented and process-focused orientations as well as practical skill building. She values developing a collaborative, safe working relationship as a cornerstone of all therapy, through which she hopes to help each client identify and pursue their own unique path towards a fulfilling college experience at UPS as well as a reflective, positive, growth-promoting experience of exploring one’s developing identity.
