Stan! – The life and times of Dr. Lyle Stanton “Stan” Shelmidine

An exhibit featuring artifacts and documents from the Archives & Special Collections, Stan! This exhibit explores the impact of Dr. Lyle Stanton “Stan” Shelmidine (1906-1966) on University of Puget Sound. A popular figure on campus and highly respected throughout Tacoma, Dr. Shelmidine took a leave of absence to serve as an officer in WWII, initiated the Brown & Haley Lecture Series on campus, and served as a member of the Tacoma Philharmonic Board,Tacoma Art League, Tacoma Drama League, English Speaking Union and World Affairs Council. He was also a beloved professor of Near and Far East History at University of Puget Sound.
