Tacoma, WA - University of Puget Sound's Kittredge Gallery hosts the Art Students Annual, on display from Nov. 28 through Dec. 19, 2007. A gala opening is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. Merit awards sponsored by art vendors and local businesses will be presented at 6 p.m. The reception is open to the university community, as well as the general public.
The Art Students Annual is a long-standing tradition for the Puget Sound art department. Any student (art major or not) who has taken a studio class and is currently enrolled at University of Puget Sound is eligible to enter the juried show. Artworks on display are the product of class assignments or independent studies supervised by art faculty. The show presents an intriguing range of problem-solving approaches in a variety of media. The exhibition runs concurrently with a"Salon de Refuse" student art venue located on the lower level of Jones Hall, as well as the graduating Senior Show in the small gallery of Kittredge.
Studio courses offered by the department include painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, ceramic sculpture, and photography. Kittredge Gallery and the art department are housed in a complex of adjacent buildings on the northeast corner of campus.
Noted artist and educator Becky Frehse is the 2007 guest juror. Ms. Frehse's mixed media work is in public and private collections including Harborview Medical Center. She was recently featured in a solo exhibition at University Gallery at Pacific Lutheran University.
