University of Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. – Returning this year to the Women’s League Flea Market at the University of Puget Sound is 8:15 a.m. “Side Door Sneak Peek” to allow early-bird shoppers to have a look around ahead of the market’s official opening. Also added this year, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is a team of professional evaluators in the Boutique, who will look over your own treasures and value them for a fee.

Once the main doors open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, the league expects well over 3,000 visitors to pour into the market, now aptly known as the Flea Market and Fieldhouse Full of Awesome Stuff.

Families, friends, alumni, and treasure hunters are invited to come to the event, between 8:15 a.m. and 4 p.m., at Memorial Fieldhouse, near the corner of Union Ave. and N. 11th St. in Tacoma. Sneak Peek admission, at 8:15 a.m., is $10. From 9 a.m. on, entrance is $5. Parking is free, and tickets are available at the door.

In its 48th year, the market is a spring tradition for many in the South Sound. More than 60 vendors’ booths will offer antiques, junktique and collectibles, vintage and upcycled items, clothing and textiles, jewelry, books, repurposed treasures, home and garden items, creative and artisans’ goods, locally sourced foods, and more.

Food will be available from the Women’s League Café, VietNom Nom Food Truck, Ice Cream Social, and other vendors. A raffle for items donated by market vendors will be held in the lobby.

All proceeds from the event support University of Puget Sound scholarships for students. Last year the flea market raised more than $31,000, all of which went toward scholarships. In total last year, Women’s League endowed scholarships provided $34,000 in financial aid to 12 talented Puget Sound students.

The market is the largest event organized each year by members of the University of Puget Sound Women’s League. It has been held since 1968, after a league member traveled to Paris, France, and was inspired by a visit to a flea market there. The league was founded in 1900 and has supported the university and its community since that time: fundraising, hosting events, and encouraging the continuing education of league members.
