Spokane, Wash.—The University of Puget Sound men's golf team completed its second tournament of the fall Monday, taking third place in the Whitworth Men's Invitational held at Manito Country Club in Spokane, Wash.
Sophomore Adam Bean once again led the way for the Loggers, tallying his second top-five finish in as many tournaments. He tied for second after firing rounds of 4-under-par 67 and 6-over-par 77 during the two-day tournament, ending with a score of 2-over-par 144. Four strokes back, Ben Hayes earned a top-10 finish, tying for 6th place with a total of 148 strokes, six shots over par. He took 72 strokes (+1) during Sunday's first round and 76 (+5) in Monday's second.
Derek Wilson tied for 19th in the tournament, after cutting five strokes between his first and second round. He tallied a 9-over-par 80 on Sunday, but shot a 4-over 75 during Monday's second round to finish with a two-day total of 155, 13 shots above par. Four strokes off that mark, Matt Kitto tied for 24th with a two-day total of 159 (+17). He shot 5-over 76 in round one and 12-over 83 in round two.
Wrapping up the team scoring, Ricky Howard tied for 36th at 22-over-par 164, after turning in rounds of 77 (+6) and 87 (+16). Two other Loggers competed in the tournament as individuals. Patrick King took 39th with a two-day total of 165 (+23), and Jeremy Vandenberg finished in 45th with a tournament score of 169, 27 strokes above par.
As a team, the Loggers took third place with a two-day total of 603 strokes, 35 shots above par. North Idaho won the tournament with a score of 587 (+19), while Pacific Lutheran's Dustin Hegge took the individual crown with a two-day total of 142 strokes, even par for the course.
The Puget Sound men's golf team next hits the links Oct. 20 and 21 at the George Fox Culturame Classic. That tournament will take place at the Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Portland, Ore.
