TACOMA, Wash. – The first fall concert of Tacoma’s popular Jacobsen Series will present the Finisterra Piano Trio of Seattle performing a selection of powerful and virtuosic masterworks.

The public concert, “Invitation to the Dance,” will be Friday, Sept. 20 starting at 7:30 p.m. in Schneebeck Concert Hall. The artists include University of Puget Sound faculty member Tanya Stambuk, piano; Brittany Boulding, violin; and Kevin Krentz, cello. Ticket information is below.

The trio will perform the following works.

Astor Piazolla: The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires (selections)
Maurice Ravel: Piano Trio in A minor
Paul Schoenfield: Café Music
Joaquin Turina:  Circulo, Opus 91

The Finisterra Piano Trio has become one of the most recognized chamber ensembles in the Northwest, with a rapidly growing audience across the United States. Formed in 2003, the trio has been featured on broadcasts by National Public Radio and Seattle classical radio station KING FM.

Known for its keen interpretive work, the ensemble breathes old-world vitality into modern works, the standard repertoire, and some imaginative, lesser-known works.

The Finisterra Piano Trio took a silver medal at the Salieri-Zinetti International Chamber Music Competition in Italy, and won the Green Lake National Chamber Music Competition in Wisconsin. They have been invited to perform in Europe and the Americas, including performances with the renowned Florestan Trio in London. They are also artists in residence at The Seasons concert series in Yakima, Wash.

Finisterra recorded the three piano trios of contemporary American composer Daron Aric Hagen for the Naxos label, a recording that was hailed by NPR as one of the top 10 American contemporary recordings of 2010.

The Jacobsen Series, named in honor of Leonard Jacobsen, former chair of the piano department at Puget Sound, has been running since 1984. The Jacobsen Series Scholarship Fund awards annual music scholarships to outstanding student performers and scholars. The fund is sustained entirely by season subscribers and ticket sales.
