Loggers Rowing Teams Dominant In Governor's Cup

March 18, 2013

LAKEWOOD, Wash. – The Puget Sound rowing teams opened the 2013 spring season with a sweep of the Governor's Cup trophies on American Lake. The Loggers came out on top of both the men's and women's overall points standings, as well as both varsity eight races.

The MV8 posted a 7:24.3 to come away with the cup, while the WV8 finished with a 7:52.5 to win its cup over Lewis & Clark and Willamette.

More wins came for the Loggers in the women's 2V8 and the novice four. Lewis & Clark won the varsity four race with a 9:01.0.

The men's varsity pair also rowed its way to a win as did the novice four. Lewis & Clark grabbed another victory in the men's varsity four with a 7:35.2, edging out the Loggers by just three seconds.

All crews rowed against a strong headwind that only grew worse throughout the day. The wind also created choppy conditions on the water  over the final 1,000 meters of the course.

The Loggers will remain home for their next regatta to host the Cascade Sprints on Mar. 30 on American Lake.
