TERRA HAUTE, Ind. – Senior Matt Klein wrapped up his Puget Sound cross country career with a trip to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Saturday. It was Klein's first trip to the national meet.
Klein finished with a time of 26:14 in the 8,000-meter championship race to place 175th overall on a "really, really tough course," according to head coach Mike Orechia.
"It was a great culmination to a great season for Matt," added Orechia. "From where he was as a freshman to where he is now as an All-Conference and All-Region runner really says a lot about his hard work and determination. It was a really great season for him."
Klein held a pace of a 5:17 mile through the 8k to conclude his cross country career. Now, he turns his focus to the spring track and field season. He will return as the defending conference champion in the 10k.
