At Saint John's (MN) 2005-2006 I taught Math Explorations, Introductory Probability & Statistics, Calculus I, and Abstract Algebra. At Gustavus Adolphus 2004-2005 I taught Nature of Mathematics, Precalculus, Calculus II, Problem Solving, Linear Algebra, Pell's Equation, and Discrete Calculus. At Saint Olaf College 2000-2004 I taught Gateways to Mathematics, Calculus I & II, Combinatorial Games, Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Structures of Higher Mathematics, Elementary Real Analysis, Abstract Algebra, Problem Solving, and Combinatorics. I have a daughter, Ava, who is 16, and a son, Christos, who is 4.
My research interests include Combinatorics, Number Theory, and Ergodic Theory. Some of the work I have done with my advisor Andrew Haas lies at the intersection of the latter two areas. Our papers are The distribution of Jager pairs for continued fraction like mappings of the interval, (Pacific J. of Math., Volume 217, No. 1 (2004), 101-114) and Metrical diophantine approximation for continued fraction like maps of the interval, (Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 356 (2004), 2851-2870). I believe this makes my Erdös number 5. I have also worked with students in Combinatorial Game Theory, Combinatorics, and continued fractions.
Problem SolvingThis year (2007-2008) I am running the Problem Solving Seminar (Math 295) which is a 0-credit class meeting once a week to solve problems not unlike those on the Putnam Exam. Now that we have a bulletin board, I have also started a problem of the week.
