This course explores the role of the nervous system in controlling movement and learning coordinated motor tasks such as locomotion and physical activity. A survey of the nervous system and sensorimotor control set the stage for an exploration of topics such as neuromuscular activation and neuromotor control, neuromuscular fatigue, neuroendocrine regulation, neural control of respiration, endurance and strength training, adaptations of the nervous system, and the neuromuscular responses to decreased activity. Other current topics such as the activity-dependent expression of neurotropic factors and their effects on cognition or neurorehabilitation may be explored.
Prerequisites: EXSC 200, 221, and 222. NRSC 201 is recommended.
