Nineteenth Century American Literature

This course considers American literature from the nineteenth century. The course may address literary, cultural, or political movements of the period, including nationalism, Transcendentalism, the American Renaissance, Sentimentalism, Revivalism, Abolitionism, Feminism, Realism, and Naturalism. Possible course topics include the Literature of Reform, Literary Abolitionism, American Romanticism, and Turn-of-the-Century Novel.

Prerequisites: ENGL 224 or ENGL 225 or permission of instructor.
