The production of the artist's book is central to this course. Students learn how to construct several different book structures, and then choose one for the creation of their work. During this course, each student creates a one-of-a-kind book and an editioned book. Students also participate in a collaborative book project. The bookmaking craft includes gluing, folding, and binding techniques. A discussion of archival and non-archival materials is presented. Ongoing concepts, including image, narrative, audience, sequencing, and voice, are addressed.
Prerequisites: ART 101 or portfolio review by instructor.
