Introduction to American Public Address

This course uses rhetorical and argumentation theory to introduce students to the discipline of Communication Studies. Students gain foundational understanding of the concepts, theories, and methods related to the study of public address. The course begins with a survey of key concepts and theories, persuasion, argument, and rhetorical history, and then moves on to examine instances of public address that have shaped the political culture of the United States of America throughout its history.
