Students create both oral and written arguments via the examination of how gender is constructed in communication. The course is grounded on the premise that all we create--including cultures, political and economic systems, and of course gender--is accomplished through communication. Students learn that biological difference between the sexes are really very few, and examine how and why masculinity and femininity are socially constructed and maintained. The class challenges students to examine taken-for-granted perspectives and values. Affiliate department: Communication Studies.
