The Scientific and Romantic Revolutions

This course explores the causes and consequences of two decisive turning points in Western civilization--the Scientific Revolution of the 16th and 17th Centuries, and the Romantic movement of the late 18th and early 19th Centuries. The course aims to understand these periods of upheaval in their political, religious, economic, scientific, and aesthetic dimensions, and to discover how their legacy continues to inform the relationship between science and art.
