SOAN 103

Social Problems

This course offers a sociological analysis of conditions, social and environmental, which are considered to constitute problems affecting the quality of social life. The class is divided into three main sections. First, students examine how social problems are created and framed. Second, students study three major sources of inequality (gender, race, and social class). The last section of the semester focuses on specific social problems within modern institutions such as family, media, and medicine.
