Campus Safety
Student safety and security are a University of Puget Sound priority. The campus is one of the safest among colleges of its type. We are proud of this record and intend to maintain it through ongoing collaboration with the campus and neighboring community. Please see the links at right for more information about campus security programs and emergency response plans.
Campus safety programs include:
- 24-hour Security Services operation and campus patrols
- 24-hour escort service for students on campus and in the surrounding community
- locked residence halls
- campus security education programs focusing on personal safety practices
- regular collaboration with the Tacoma Police Department, including frequent patrols around campus
The crime rate in the North End of Tacoma, where the university is located, is the lowest in the city, and crime in the city as a whole has decreased steadily over the past 10 years. Many faculty and staff members choose to live close to the campus because of the quality of life in the area.
Emergency Response Plans
Puget Sound has response plans for various emergencies and is prepared for effective crisis and natural disaster response. This includes many means of emergency communication, including courtesy/emergency phones, multiple campus-wide communications systems, emergency information phone line, multiple radio systems, and access to emergency TV/radio broadcasts.
