Yellow Ribbon Program
Puget Sound is pleased to be a participant in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program).
The Yellow Ribbon Program allows institutions of higher learning to voluntarily enter into an agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution. Puget Sound has agreed to contribute the maximum percentage rate of 50%, making a private university education very affordable.
Eligibility requirements: To be considered for Yellow Ribbon benefits, you must be a first time undergraduate student eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill benefit (Chapter 33) at the maximum benefit rate of 100%.
How to apply for Yellow Ribbon benefits
Puget Sound will fund up to 20 students on a first-come, first-served basis based on the date we receive your Certificate of Eligibility and the date you are admitted to the university.
Please forward a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to the Student Financial Services office to be considered for the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Once we receive your Certificate of Eligibility (COE), you will be contacted by Student Financial Services to discuss your eligibility for the Yellow Ribbon Program.
Terms & Conditions of Yellow Ribbon benefits
- Yellow Ribbon funding is available for fall and spring semesters only and cannot be applied to summer enrollment.
- Yellow Ribbon funding may only be applied towards Puget Sound tuition, not room, board, or other expenses.
- Puget Sound will fund up to 20 students. Students who take a leave of absence from Puget Sound will forfeit their Yellow Ribbon status and may be placed on a wait list for future funding.
- Yellow Ribbon funding is only available to students planning to participate on a study abroad program if they are eligible for their Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits while abroad. VA cannot pay any benefits for study abroad unless the student is REQUIRED to study abroad as part of their degree program.
- To receive Yellow Ribbon funding, students must be maintaining both Satisfactory Academic Progress and good academic standing.
Chapter 33: Post-9/11 GI Bill
The tuition and fees payment is made directly to the school on behalf of the student once the school’s enrollment certification is processed.
The tuition and fees payment is capped at $18,077 for the academic year, and is prorated based on the student's length of service. The Certificate of Eligibility (COE) will reflect the student's eligibility percentage.
The academic year for VA benefits is from August 1 to August 1. If you use your full capped benefits during the fall and spring semesters, you will not be eligible to receive benefits during the summer term.
VA cannot pay any benefits for study abroad unless the student is REQUIRED to study abroad as part of their degree program.
