Terms & Conditions
All students are required to sign a copy of the terms and conditions regarding the financial obligations for their specific study abroad program.
Program Deposit: Upon acceptance to the program, students will be billed directly by the provider for a non-refundable enrollment deposit. Failure to meet the deposit deadline may result in the withdrawal of the student's application and ineligibility to participate.
Program Fee: Students will be charged Puget Sound tuition, fees, room, and/or board for the study abroad program.
Financial Aid and Scholarships: Students who complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and demonstrate financial need may use, in conjunction with federal and state aid, their Puget Sound scholarships and grants up to their level of financial need. Students who do not complete the FAFSA or do not demonstrate financial need are not eligible for Puget Sound scholarships during their semester abroad. Please consult with Student Financial Services to determine the amount of your Puget Sound scholarships and grants that can be applied to study abroad.
Confirmation and Billing: Students must confirm their registration and intent to participate by signing their invoice and submitting the required initial payment by the payment deadline just as they would if enrolling in classes on campus. The payment deadline is August 5 for fall term and January 5 for spring term.
Additional Expenses: There are a number of expenses that students will need to consider that are not billed by Puget Sound. These expenses may include books, airfare, local transportation, passport and visa fees, medical insurance, inoculations, security deposit if applicable, and any other personal expenses. Additional Charges: Students may be billed directly by the program provider for insurance, excursions, course fees, or other program costs. Please contact the program provider directly for questions concerning these charges.
Housing Policy: Students must stay in program-approved housing. No independent housing arrangements are permitted.
Withdrawal and Cancellation Policy: Because Puget Sound makes financial commitments on the student's behalf well in advance of the start of the program, the following cancellation provisions exist:
- Student Withdrawal
Prior to the program’s departure date: Written notice of withdrawal must be submitted to the International Programs office. Students may be eligible for a refund of charges, less a $100 cancellation fee and any non-recoverable costs charged to Puget Sound by the provider.
After the program’s departure date: No adjustments will be made to tuition, fees, room and board charges. The financial aid award will be evaluated to determine whether any portion of a student's financial aid must be returned in accordance with institutional policy and/or federal and state regulatory requirements.
- Cancellation of the Program
In the event a program is canceled, students may be eligible for a refund less any non-recoverable costs, pro-rated based on the date of the program cancellation. Puget Sound and the program provider will work together to offer alternate arrangements for continuation of your studies.
Financial Aid/Student Account Credit Balance: Financial aid is disbursed to the student's account at the beginning of each semester. If there are any remaining funds on the account after charges are paid, students will be issued a refund check. Refund checks cannot be released until the first day of the semester.
