Why did you choose University of Puget Sound?
I chose the University of Puget Sound because it truly is a confluence of the elements. 2600 students is the perfect size for me. It’s the perfect balance of small-school community with the activities and opportunities of a bigger school. We are close enough to Seattle, which is a really interesting and fun city to explore. It’s only two hours to Portland, and roughly three hours to the border of Canada. There are also abundant opportunities to explore the beautiful Pacific Northwest outdoors. Hiking, backpacking, skiing, and snowshoeing: we have it all!

The KUPS booth.
What is your favorite food in the Wheelock Student Center?
I love a bowl of black beans, white rice, cheese, and salsa from the Latin American station. It’s quick, portable, easy, and so delicious.
What advice would you give to a prospective student or first year about the Puget Sound experience?
Be open to new experiences! The school does a great job of reaching out to new students and showing them all of the amazing opportunities available on campus and out and about in Tacoma. I would advise new students to try new and interesting things: there are so many cool clubs and organizations on campus.
What quirky or fun thing do you wish you had known before you came to Puget Sound?
I wish I had known about all of the cool ways that the professors are integrated into the campus community. Professors chat with students in the cafes, hold class outside, and greet you while they walk around campus.
Who is your favorite character from a movie/book/television series?
“My name is Junie B. Jones…The B stands for Beatrice. But I don’t like Beatrice. I just like B and that’s all.” I feel like Junie B. reminds me the importance of being young and silly sometimes.
