Test Requirements for Admission
Test scores are one of many factors that Puget Sound considers when making admission decisions. Below you'll find information about the various tests that we consider (some required, some not). To be considered, scores must be submitted directly from the testing agency. For more information about other admission requirements, please visit the appropriate admission page linked at the right side of this page.
ACT/SAT Tests - Freshmen applicants are required to submit official ACT or SAT scores. Transfer applicants who have completed less than a year of college coursework are required to submit official ACT or SAT scores. Transfer applicants who have completed a year or more of college coursework are not required to submit scores.
- Although the strength of an applicant's writing is strongly considered, Puget Sound does not require the optional Writing section of the ACT.
- One year of college coursework is equivalent to 32 semester credits or 48 quarter credits.
SAT Subject Tests - Students are welcome to submit subject test scores. However, Puget Sound does not consider SAT Subject Test scores when making admission decisions.
Advanced Placement (AP) - Puget Sound may award credit for AP scores. Submit your official scores to Puget Sound and visit our AP Policy page to learn more about course equivalencies and credit awarding policy. These scores are not required for admission, but the Office of Admission does take into account AP scores when making admission decisions.
International Baccalaureate (IB) - Puget Sound may award credit for IB scores. Submit your official scores to Puget Sound and visit our IB Policy page to learn more about course equivalencies and credit awarding policy. These scores are not required for admission, but the Office of Admission does take into account IB scores when making admission decisions.
