This day-long event in November invites high school students and their families to attend classes, rehearals, and special interest sessions, tour campus, and meet current students and faculty. String Festival 2013 is an accelerated program that takes students from first rehearsal to concert stage in two action-packed days of chamber music rehearsals, coachings, master classes, and performances. Guest artist Frank Huong, violin, will be joining the School of Music faculty at the festival this year.
Conductors Institute: Conductors of bands at all levels are invited to participate in this multi-day workshop in January to refresh their skills, learn about new band literature, and improve score study and rehearsal techniques. This year's guest band clinician will be John Lynch. Sara Padilla, AmSAT certified, will present two sessions on the Alexander Technique.
24th Annual Piano Festival is an intensive workshop offered annually for piano teachers and students which also features a Young Artist competition with $1,200 in prizes. Master classes and related music classes are led by well-known guest artists, as well as by piano faculty members from the School of Music. The guest artist for 2014 is Christine Padaca Fuoco, Baldwin Wallace.
Northwest Honor Choir Festival is an energetic two-day choral experience for advanced high school choral students held in the beginning of October every year. This year's clinician is Karen Kennedy, University of Miami, Frost School of Music.
Serious About Singing High School Workshop is a vocal workshop for top regional high school singers who are dedicated to improving their vocal skills and to exploring in more depth the art of singing. Students selected for this year's workshop will have the opportunity to expand their acting and interpretive skills in the morning session, get individual feedback on their repertoire in two small master classes with our outstanding voice faculty, and perform in the final afternoon concert.
Women's Chorus Festival: Held annually in February, this festival invites women's choirs from the region to campus for an evening of sharing performances and receiving input from the Puget Sound choral faculty.
