Puget Sound Conductor's Institute

University of Puget Sound School of Music invites conductors of bands at all levels to attend the Puget Sound Conductor’s Institute, Distinguished guest clinicians include Marianne Ploger, senior artist-teacher of musicianship and director of the Musicianship Program at Blair School of Music, Vanderbilt University, and Robert Taylor, director of bands at University of British Columbia.

Morning conducting sessions will take place with a live performing ensemble, and are designed to refresh conducting skills, as well as deepen knowledge of score study and rehearsal techniques under the guidance of University of Puget Sound Director of Bands Gerard Morris and guest clinician Robert Taylor.

Afternoon sessions will be lead by guest clinician Marianne Ploger, and focus around her comprehensive musicianship program that is oriented towards real-time music cognition. Ploger’s pedagogical approach has been developed throughout her 30+ years of teaching and is based upon original observations concerning the perception of musical pitch, interval, and rhythm.

Participants may register as conductors or auditors. Conductors will work with a live ensemble comprised of University of Puget Sound Wind Ensemble students and members of the 133rd Army Band from Camp Murray, Scott Pierson, conductor. Auditors may attend all sessions and participate in discussions, but will not conduct the ensemble. State of Washington music teachers will earn 20 WMEA clock hours for their participation.
