Contaminated Labware

Beware of labware that might be contaminated with chemicals. Most glassware can be rinsed with acetone or dichloromathane once, and the rinsate deposited into the appropriate waste collection bottle. For a P-Listed chemical, it must be rinsed three times. Log all rinses into the bottle log sheet.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Rinse all disposable transfer pipettes, NMR tubes, test tubes, vials, etc., that have residual chemicals in them.
  • Rinse all stoppers, corks, lids, etc., that have residual chemicals on them.
