About the Program

Philosophy

The MEd program in Counseling is designed for individuals seeking to assume professional roles as school counselors. Puget Sound's School of Education, by virtue of its location in a liberal arts institution, is committed to training competent professionals, not technicians. The MEd program provides a firm foundation of skills and knowledge that will enable students to adjust to changing circumstances that will affect their professional practice in the future and which cannot be fully anticipated. For example, the MEd program favors the development of problem-solving and analytical skills and oral and written communication over proficiency with one particular technique or theory.
